If you’ve been searching for a private gym near Atlanta, you probably already know what you don’t want: a packed floor, a line for the squat rack, and a membership card you stop using by March. What you want is harder to name. Usually it’s something like “a place where someone actually knows me, has a plan for me, and notices when I don’t show up.”
That’s the gap Ferris Fitness was built to fill. We’re a private, semi-private personal training facility in Duluth, in Gwinnett County northeast of Atlanta. To be clear up front: our only location is 3064 Old Norcross Rd, Suite 100, Duluth, GA 30096. We’re not intown, so this is for people who live or work in the north and northeast metro area and want a private training setting that’s worth the drive.
What “Private Gym” Usually Means (and Why It Matters)
“Private gym” gets used for a lot of different things. Some places are an empty room you rent by the hour. Some are a regular gym with a nicer lobby. Some are true coaching studios. Before you sign up anywhere, it helps to know which one you’re looking at. Here’s what we’d ask about:
- Who’s coaching you, and how many people are they coaching at once? A private setting only helps if someone is actually watching your form and adjusting your workout.
- Is there a plan, or just access? Equipment is easy to find. A program built around your goals is not.
- What happens with nutrition? Most people who’ve “tried everything” didn’t fail in the gym. Food is usually where things fall apart.
- How is progress tracked? The scale alone can be misleading. Look for something more complete.
- Who checks in on you between workouts? Accountability is the part most gyms skip, and it’s often the part that makes it stick.
How Ferris Fitness Works
We built our model around three pillars: Fitness, Nutrition, and Accountability. All three are part of every membership, not add-ons.
Coached, semi-private sessions capped at 6
Members train 3 times a week in semi-private sessions with a coach, on a custom program. Each session is capped at 6 people. That’s small enough that our coaches can correct your form and adjust your workout in real time, and social enough that you’re not training alone. If you’re curious how this compares to 1-on-1, we broke it down in semi-private vs. 1-on-1 personal training.

A nutrition plan built from your own body scan
Instead of a generic meal plan, your nutrition plan is built from a STYKU 3D body scan. Members also get scanned weekly, so you can see changes in measurements and body composition, not just what the scale says on a given morning.
Daily accountability
Every member has daily check-ins from our Client Success Director. If your week gets away from you, someone notices and helps you get back on track. For a lot of busy professionals, this is the piece that’s been missing.
Who This Tends to Fit
Many of our members are busy professionals in their 30s, 40s, and beyond who have tried diets and gym memberships before and haven’t gotten lasting results. Not from lack of effort, but from lack of structure and support. Some are brand new to strength training. Some used to dread working out. Others have had memberships at big gyms and never felt comfortable there.
The feeling people describe most often is that it’s not intimidating. As one member put it in a Google review:
“No judgements in this gym!”
A member’s Google review
Another summed it up as “It’s more than just a gym.” That community is a big part of why people stay consistent.
Is the Drive Worth It?
That’s a fair question, and only you can answer it. A few things to think about:
- You’re coming 3 times a week, on a schedule. We’re open Monday through Friday from 5 AM to 8 PM and Saturday from 9 AM to 12 PM, so many members train before work or on the way home.
- Every session has a purpose. You’re not driving somewhere to figure out what to do. Your coach already has the plan.
- If the drive doesn’t work, there’s another option. Our online coaching gives you a custom program, nutrition guidance, and daily check-ins from wherever you are.
If you live closer to one of the nearby cities, our pages for Norcross, Johns Creek, and Peachtree Corners cover what training with us looks like from there. And if you’re still weighing a big gym against a smaller one, read our private gym vs. big box comparison.
